Am I the only one who hasn't fallen head over heels for this show?
It takes itself too seriously, which sucks the fun right out of the show for me. It's like it looked at how Saban turned Kamen Rider Black in to a family sitcom and decided it had to be completely 180 degrees opposite of that and be all dark and grim and emo.
Plus, the American Kamen Rider is an annoying douche. Too much pouting and being emo in Dragging Nite.
I bailed on it after a few episodes for the reasons Toho gave. I wouldn't mind a darker show, but it just wasn't fun. Even Victoria Jackson had the sense to get out.
Victoria Jackson was on this show? How weird! http://www.victoriajackson.com/
The show just seems to stripped-down and spare, particularly with respect to the sets: whatever happened to battles in gravel pits, eh? Nowadays it's all urban environment and CGI : (
Surprisingly (or not, maybe), the series was shown in Japan. The toys sold pretty well in Japanese import shops, as well. Maybe it was a curiosity thing...if you REALLY like Ryuhki in Japan, maybe you were interested. I know the reverse was NOT true for me with any of Saban's crap.
While I've enjoyed a couple of the Saban retakes they just can't hold a candle to originals.
On the other hand I still enjoyed the english dub on the Ultraman DVD set more then the original. Mostly because that's how I was first introduced to Ultraman, and no reflection on the quality of the original.
Still, I wish I'd picked up those "Saban's Masked Rider" discs when I had the chance just to have a copy to show exactly how bad it was.
